Androgyny Image

This cabinet card, dating from the 1890's, is from the photo studio of E. and H. Lee, Anerley, South London. Perhaps spurred by the androgynous stylesetter Oscar Wilde, this youth wears his hair long and highly styled. His features are nearly devoid of gender identity, especially viewed in isolation from his distinctly male attire.
